DOT releases 2008 Iowa Transportation Map

AMES, Iowa – The latest edition of one of Iowa's most popular publications, the Iowa Transportation Map, is now available at locations throughout the state and on any computer with Internet access.

Printed copies of the 2008 map are available at the DOT's 18 driver's license locations, six DOT district offices, and Iowa 's rest areas. The Iowa Division of Tourism also distributes 500,000 maps a year, with many of those going to tourists who stop at Iowa 's 20 welcome centers. To easily access the map online, go to iowadotmaps.com. The 2008 map contains numerous changes to the version printed last year. Additions include the new U.S. 63 bypass near Ottumwa , Iowa 60 bypass near Sibley, and a reminder to drivers of the state law to move over or slow down for stopped emergency or maintenance vehicles. The map also shows all other highways, major county roads, and major streets in the state's 16 largest cities; an index listing the cities shown on the map and their populations; airports and rail lines; national historic trails and scenic byways; and a chart to find mileage between selected Iowa cities.

The cover of the published map features a design that is consistent with tourism publications of the Iowa Department of Economic Development's Office of Tourism. The publication also includes a message from Governor Chester J. Culver and Lt. Governor Patty Judge.
