Bridge removal set to begin Monday on U.S. 71 bridge over the
Chicago Central and Pacific Railroad near Auburn

CHEROKEE, Iowa – According to the Iowa Department of Transportation officials, the U.S. 71 bridge over the Chicago Central and Pacific Railroad approximately four miles northwest of Auburn in Sac County will be closed beginning Monday, May 5 for the removal of the bridge.

During construction of an at-grade crossing at this location, traffic will be detoured on county roads. Cedar Valley Corp of Waterloo is the contractor for the $1.1 million project, expected to be completed by late this summer.

Motorists are urged to drive with caution and to obey posted signs in the construction area.
