Iowans advised to call ahead for latest Amtrak information AMES, Iowa – Travelers intending to travel to or from Iowa on the California Zephyr Amtrak passenger train, and persons meeting passengers scheduled to arrive at one of the Iowa stops, are advised to call ahead to 800-USA-RAIL (800-872-7245) over the next few days for the latest information. The BNSF Railway Company’s bridge near Burlington, Iowa, remains closed today as attempts are made to extract the barge lodged against the structure. This continues to affect Amtrak’s California Zephyr service, which uses this bridge. The California Zephyr travels daily between Chicago and the San Francisco Bay Area and has stops in Creston, Osceola, Ottumwa, Mount Pleasant, and Burlington. This closure does not affect Amtrak service on the Southwest Chief, which has service to Fort Madison on its route from Chicago to Los Angeles. For additional information about the affected Amtrak passenger rail services, contact: Marc Magliari, Media Relations Manager # |
