Driver's license stations closed Saturday, May 24
AMES, Iowa- All Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) driver's license stations will be closed Saturday, May 24, 2008, in observance of the Memorial Day Holiday. The stations will resume normal operations on Tuesday, May 27, 2008.

Permit center closed for holiday
Truckers who need Iowa Department of Transportation services around the Memorial Day holiday should plan ahead.

Truckers and other commercial vehicle operators needing permits for registration, fuel or authority to travel in Iowa during the Memorial Day holiday will need to get them in advance because the Iowa DOT's Regional Permit Center will be closed for the holiday. The permit center will close at 4:30 p.m. Friday, May 23, and reopen at 7 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2008

Truckers should also note that no movements of oversize loads will be permitted in Iowa from noon May 23 until 30 minutes prior to sunrise on May 27.

The permit center experiences a heavy workload on the day following the holiday, customers are urged to submit applications for oversize permits, especially those over 156,000 pounds, several days before needing the permit.

The permit center, located at 6310 S.E. Convenience Blvd., Ankeny, is a one-stop source for fuel and trip permits, routing for oversize loads, IRP (international registration plan) registration, IFTA (international fuel tax agreement) licensing, and travel authority needed by truckers to operate in Iowa.
